Bio:
Fabian Offert is Assistant Professor in the History and Theory of Digital Humanities at the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies. His research investigates machine learning as a critical technical practice in the (digital) humanities, with special interests in digital visual studies and the history, theory, and politics of computing. His most recent articles have appeared in AI & Society, Media and Environment, and technical conferences such as NeurIPS and EVVC. Previously, Fabian was Postdoctoral Researcher in the DFG priority program “The Digital Image” and Affiliated Researcher in the Artificial Intelligence and Media Philosophy Research Group at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. He has also worked for a number of German cultural institutions, including ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, Goethe-Institut New York, and Ruhrtriennale Festival of the Arts.
